The Handheld Learning 2008 Conference was held on the 13th–15th October in London. It brought together over 1,000 of the world’s leading experts, practitioners, education leaders, developers, policy and decision makers to demonstrate, debate and explore how new technologies are being used to transform improvements in learning.
Schools from across the country had an opportunity to showcase the latest technologies being used in education. There were robots, recording devices, blogging, podcasts, mobile and gaming consoles galore! Delegates were invited to hear, see and touch new technologies from household names such as Sony, Apple Disney and O2.
A number of schools also picked up awards for their innovative use of technology in learning. One of the winners was Wilsden Primary School. Their Mobile Learning Project involved giving all children an EDA (Educational Digital Assistant) or minicomputer to use at school and take home. After only one year of using them, pupils have achieved much higher levels of attainment, especially in math and reading.
