The Next Generation Learning campaign was launched at Mossbourne Community Academy in Hackney by Schools Minister Jim Knight.
The Academy has been held up as a shining example of how ICT (information communication technology) can positively impact all aspects of school life.
The Minister took part in a creative project with the students to illustrate how the school has embraced technology across the whole curriculum. He said: “The Next Generation Learning campaign is all about using technology to its full potential for learners, parents and employers. This initiative is hugely important in encouraging people across education to ensure that we are rolling out ICT effectively.”
Recognising the importance of parental engagement in young people’s learning, the Minister went on to say that ITC gives education a real opportunity to “forge a personal alliance between parents and teachers”.
Becta CEO Stephen Crowne who also attended the launch expressed his delight at the impact technology was having on school performance across the country. He said that Becta’s mission was to “provide schools like this right across the system with excellent teaching…and that technology can play its part”.
Johnny Ball joined Jim Knight at the launch event, lending his support to the campaign. The former teacher and TV presenter said that IT can make “average teachers better and good teachers absolutely brilliant!”
