Reach their potential

Technology is now being used in UK schools more than ever before and the results are paying off. Almost 75% of 7 to 11 year olds believe they understand ideas better as a result of using technology in school, and this is likely to mean improved GCSE grades and more children moving into higher education.

But despite all the progress made, still only 20% of schools are using technology really effectively.

Does technology at school really make a difference to how well my child performs?

Quite simply, the answer is yes! There’s good evidence to suggest that children who are encouraged to use technology do significantly better than expected. For example:

  • Schools that use technology well across the curriculum and wider school life have reduced absence rates and achieve a higher percentage of A*-C grades at GCSE.
  • Pupils studying Key Stage 2 Maths, Science and English in schools which make the best use of technology, improve at twice the rate of the national average.
  • When young people use technology to support their learning at home they do better in national tests.
How’s your school doing?

As a parent or carer, the best thing you can do is become an active partner with your school and encourage the development of their ICT plans. If you’re not sure your school is Next Generation Learning ready take the test.
